Surviving zodiacal whiplash in 2018

How’s that neck feeling? You know, after that one-two planetary punch delivered May 15-16, when unpredictable Uranus fell into reality bites Taurus and impatient Mars entered experimental Aquarius? The good news: we survived zodiacal whiplash.

A few felt dazed right away, particularly anyone with personal planets or angles at 0-1 degrees of early fixed signs. For others, the impact came a few hours later when Mars-Uranus perfected their first inflammatory square. The rest of us may not fully realize what hit us until Mars leaves Aquarius in mid-November.

Forewarned is forearmed.  Similar to the anatomical variety, zodiacal whiplash symptoms may not appear for a number of months. So protect that precious neck and buckle up for the remainder of Mars’ crazy trek through Aquarius, and get ready for:

  • The rarest of retrogrades (June 26- August 26). Not since 1971 has Mars had a retrograde cycle in Aquarius. Those who were alive then can attest to what a wild year it was. Sensitive degrees in 2018 are 28-29 Cardinal and 0-9 Fixed;
  • Mars out of bounds (July 8- September 24) encouraging us to explore future possibilities beyond the Sun’s dominion;
  • Mars on the Moon’s South Node (June 8, July 20, and September 27) gives us three opportunities to make damn sure we jettison anything we don’t need or have no desire to haul into the brave new world we are creating; and
  • Two more Mars-Uranus squares (August 1, September 18) ratcheting up additional whiplash potential.

Like I said, buckle up! It’s unlikely to be a livin’ is easy kind of summer in the north nor a cozy, peaceful winter in the south. Neither will it be boring.

Venus graciously waits her turn before offering her own retrograde two cents (October 6 – November 15) in Scorpio/Libra. That means love and money will be added to the list of change orders that’ll keep us scrambling while we adapt to new circumstances.

Our professed desire for something new may take on a whole different meaning by November 15. Letting go of an old operating system can be like pulling teeth when fixed signs are involved. Fortunately, there will be multiple opportunities to decide what to keep and what to toss, unless of course we refuse to cooperate. Think carefully before handing the reins to someone else.

Finding 0-9 degrees Aquarius and the last two degrees of Capricorn in our natal charts and locating planets or angles in early fixed degrees helps us understand where the action is happening and which areas of our lives we are being asked to change. Let’s work creatively with the whiplash experience to shake off complacency and launch us into an exciting new phase.

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it’s evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don’t you know that you can count me out
Don’t you know it’s gonna be
All right, all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We’d all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We’re doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don’t you know it’s gonna be
All right, all right, all right
You say you’ll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it’s the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don’t you know it’s gonna be
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right
